Last week, we gave you a look at the world through the eyes of a senior nursing student. She told us how she studied, how she felt about her boards, and her plans for graduation day. Check it out here. This week, we’re going to take a look at things from a different perspective: We’ll pick the brain of a sophomore. Dessa Consbruck, a nursing student at Creighton University in Omaha, NE, shares her thoughts about tough classes and where she wants to be in 10 years.
1. In five words or less, why do you want to be a nurse?
I love to help people.
2. What one thing do you need to do everyday before your first class?
Brush my teeth! Just kidding . . . I just try to go into every class with an open mind, even though I really don’t want to be there!
3. What’s your favorite color scrubs?
Lime green or hot pink.
4. What’s the toughest class you’ve taken at nursing school?
Probably organic chemistry or physiology.
5. What’s the best way to study for a test?
Start reviewing your notes every day [during] the week of the test. Definitely don’t cram. I like to make note cards and study with my other nursing buddies.
6. On a scale from 1-10, how nervous are you about the NCLEX®?
10!!!
7. When you need to relieve stress, what do you do?
Spend time with my friends, watch a movie, go for a walk or exercise, or turn up my music.
8. If you weren’t studying to be a nurse, what other profession would you like to try?
Probably either a dentist or a doctor.
9. What’s the first thing you’ll do on graduation day?
Hug my parents and tell them ‘thanks for supporting me,’ and have fun with my family and friends while celebrating the accomplishment.
10. Where do you want to be in 10 years?
Hopefully, I will be either a Neonatal or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, living up my dreams of becoming a nurse and making a difference in people’s lives.
