Remember when you looked forward to Halloween? Remember when it wasn’t just another made-up holiday? Remember when you spent sleepless nights thinking about swimming in a pool of chocolate and marshmallow? Okay, maybe not that last one, but you get the point. The days of getting free candy, marching in parades, and awaiting the Great Pumpkin may be lost in your rearview mirror of memories, but there is still fun to be had. If you take a quick look at the calendar, you’ll see that Halloween is less than two weeks away. Don’t panic! We’re here to help with five simple, creative healthcare costumes that will make you look forward to October 31 again.
- Dress up as Patch Adams. Who doesn’t want to put a smile on a kid’s face? Hunter Campbell “Patch” Adams is well known (thanks to the movie starring Robin Williams) for using laughter as a tool for healing.
How to pull it off: Just get a white lab coat, a red ball to put on the end of your nose, and some big, floppy shoes. Who wants to walk around in professional attire for the evening?
How to pull it off: It’s easy: Get a briefcase. Walk around all night and when people ask what you are just say, “I’m managing this case. I’m a case manager.” Forced laughter will follow. - Dress up as the nursing shortage. It’s a worrying trend in our country and Halloween is the perfect time to get the word out to the public.
How to pull it off: You can do this in one of two ways. First, if you’re flying solo, just grab a white T-shirt, and write the word “Nurs.” When people ask you where the “e” is, you can go into a lengthy diatribe about the shortage in the country. And, if you want to make it a group costume, simply find three friends. Each one of you will be a different letter, and again, leave off the “e.”
