Spring is in the air. Along with rain, budding flowers, and budding romances it’s also the time for graduation. It’s a time for excitement, nervousness, and, of course, gift giving. Many of you will be saying sayonara to nursing school next month. So, what are you going to be getting? Or, more importantly, what are getting for that friend who helped you through those late-night study sessions or that buddy who took the extra time to go over your care plan with you. Don’t stress; we’re here to help!

Becoming a “nurse” is a big deal, so a gift should be thoughtful and memorable. Look through these 10 ideas to find the perfect one for you. Or, if people who know and love you are struggling to find something for you, print it out and hand it over. Enjoy!

1. NCLEX study material. Some of the best gifts are useful ones. After the celebrations have ended, the NCLEX exam is the next big hurdle for a graduate. Pick a good book (or pay for a good class) and help keep the stress away.
2. Nap time. Whether it’s one of those nice, foam pillows or simply a mask for sleeping during the day (yes, night shifts are a possibility), these gifts are thoughtful and creative. After all, is there anything quite as important as a good night’s sleep?
3. Flowers. Simple, sweet, and classy, flowers are sure to put a smile on anyone’s face come graduation day. Don’t feel like being predictable? Forget roses and go with lilies, daisies, or tulips.
4. AAA membership. Chances are most commutes aren’t going to be right around the corner. And before that healthy nursing salary starts rolling in, a used car might be the way to go. Give someone a little peace of mind and a little security with a card that can fit in their wallet.
5. A yoga mat. Relaxation and some time away from the world are a couple of items that are high on any new graduate’s list. Give them a place to meditate and exercise at the same time.
6. Cash. Okay, so maybe it’s a tad predictable, but what new graduate couldn’t use a nice, little chunk of change?
7. A gift card to a medical supply store. Scrubs, shoes, and stethoscopes are just three of the many items new nurses will need to pick up. Make it easier for them with a thoughtful gift card.
8. A book about surviving the first year as a nurse. Um, maybe Stressed Out About Your First Year of Nursing? (Look to your left). This book will help any new graduate weather the first year of storms that include orientation, horizontal hostility, and the challenging transition from student to nurse.
9. A gift certificate to a spa. What better way to say “I did it,” than by enjoying a day at a spa. Fantastic facials, soothing massages . . . what were we talking about again?
10. Oh, The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss. Yes, it’s a bit corny, but every new graduate can use a little inspiration. “And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed).”
